The Dutch House
A Novel
by Ann Patchett
Published September 2019 by Harper
Audio version read by Tom Hanks

I downloaded this book from the Detroit Public Library via their Hoopla App. I listened to this the last week of May 2021 enroute to/from and at bedtime while in Charlevoix, MI. I think I need my own copy of this! :)

I knew my friend, Elisabeth, loved all books ~ Ann Patchett ~ so when I saw this on Hoopla before my trip up north, I thought it might be a really good listen ~ and, after all, who doesn’t love Tom Hanks?

I found myself lost, in a good way, in this book… totally engrossed in it… the people the situations they were in, the decisions they made and how they made them and the decisions that were made for them. I loved the progression and the parallel stories from different ages… the sadness and the complexities. The influence of the house on all the different people who were attached to it was fascinating. After finishing, I called Elisabeth to talk about it. She told me that she loved the detailed descriptions of the actual house. I did too, but it was the people, the relationships, and the depth of story that stood out to me.

Fabulous fiction!
