The Red Address Book
A Novel
by Sofia Lundberg
Translated by Alice Menzies
This book was originally published in 2017 in Swedish and then in 2019 in English by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.

My hook from pg. 7 - “So many names pass us by in a lifetime. Have you ever thought about that, Jenny? All the names that come and go. That rip our hearts to pieces and make us shed tears. That become lovers or enemies…”

I began reading this book in December 2018 and finished it March 24, 2019.

My daughter, Faith, picked this book up one day while working at HMH (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt) for me. She also got a copy for herself and one for Sara (her dear Swedish friend from high school). I began to read it straight away after she gave it to me at Christmas. But with all of our personal upheaval during January and February this year, I didn’t have the bandwidth to treasure it as I knew it deserved from the first few pages that I had read. Thus, I set it aside. I’m so glad I gave it it’s time. What a jewel of a story it is! It’s full of love, loss, and lingering… and the exploration of all three. I found it encouraging… encouraging to all—to love more, follow our intuition, and tell our stories—stories of being human.

“I wish you enough…”
