I’ll be your body pillow

I’ll be your body pillow for awhile—
as you recover from
the accident—the injury—
the surgery—the abuse—
the newest lies uncovered—
or a flood of traumas triggered

I can. I will.

I’ll hold the heaviness—
of your knee upon mine—as you heal
of your heart in me—as you weep

I can. I will.

I’ll hold your head—
on my lap—as it aches or mends
from stitches or staples
sensitivities or insecurities

I can. I will.

I’ll listen to your story—
THE story that must be told

I can. I will.

I’ll sit with you—
bear witness to your pain—
THE pain that must be seen

I can. I will.

I’ll wait—
WHILE WE WAIT.
