and other curious lovers of children’s lit of all ages
Kate DiCamillo has been a favorite children’s author of mine ever since I watched the movie and then read the book Because of Winn Dixie in 2005. I have subsequently read nearly all of her books. This book, The Beatryce Prophecy, is amazing also—totally different style, but just as brilliant. I read this book the during the first week of March 2022—during a time when I was internally processing a lot and externally unable to finish anything—no projects, no writing, no adult books… just sort of going through the motions. Then I remembered something that sometimes helps me— I needed to pick up a children’s chapter book and make some art, and I picked this book from my shelf. It nourished me and my imagination, and yes, it’s still a children’s chapter book. The Beatryce Prophecy encompasses the heart, mind, and body and demonstrates how trauma unfolds and our inner knowing can guide… and how love and stories can change the world.
