the environment established
the ambiance assembled
the pace predetermined
the rhythm realized

the padded stick strikes
the dried skin of a creature
tautly drawn by rope
within the circular frame

alive, still attached,
my well hydrated skin
vibrates, buzzes and hums
in sync with the stretched sacrifice

i observe that i tingle
here and there haphazardly
inside and across my body
with every beat

somewhere inside me
I give attention
invite curiosity
express wonder and intention

I notice with amusement how
calmness and serenity return
expanding
my capacity—my energy
